This private cabin has been thoughtfully constructed to be both beautiful and comfortable, offering a luxury experience for you to recharge. Permaculture gardens are at your doorstep and available for you to harvest and enjoy. This house is ideal for couples looking for a peaceful place to land or solo travelers to relax and soak in Guatemala's natural beauty. Your mind, body, and spirit will thank you.

The Space
Tzukasa is located at Casa Awänímä, a tranquil, beautiful space and eco-lodge designed to inspire a deeper connection to nature. There are 6 accommodations at the property, and Tzukasa is our premier standalone cabin nestled in the garden. It's the ideal place for a couple to get some relaxation time together, or a solo traveler wanting to rest and enjoy in solitude.

THE EXPERIENCE

The house has everything you'd want to be comfortable: a spacious, modern kitchen, a big couch for lounging or sleeping an extra guest, a dining table, a private bathroom, and an outdoor wrap-around deck with a hammock. Upstairs is a lofted queen size bed which makes it feel like you are sleeping in the clouds, and you can wake up to the orange glow of the sun rising over the lake. This house has its own fiberoptic wifi so it's suited for people with remote work. The whole house has filtered water!

Beauty is very important to us. This house has been thoughtfully designed and lovingly decorated with handmade goods and natural elements. Take one step outside and you are immersed in nature, hugged by the verdant valley and constantly inspired by the view of the lake and volcanoes. You might find yourself wanting to just hang out on the property, enjoying and being captivated by the always-changing landscape.

Guests can't get enough of the sweeping lake and volcano views, the gentle breeze, and ultimate peace they feel staying here. Everyone is always sad to leave, because they say they could relax here forever!

When you book with us, you'll also have access to the outdoor yoga deck, earthen sauna and river-fed cold plunge, and lounge areas around the property to read a book or drink your coffee. And we just opened our new communal dining space, which you're welcome to use too!

PERMACULTURE DESIGN

The gardens you'll see on the property were all designed according to permaculture principles. They were built “on-contour” meaning they follow the curves of the mountain to maximize water distribution and penetration into the soil. We used rocks from the land to build the terraces, which also help fortify the steep slope of the mountain.

In the gardens you’ll find many perennial foods, like gandul (pigeon pea), malanga (taro root), maracuya (passion fruit), citrus, mora (mulberry), avocado, and fig.

Our gardens are fully organic, meaning they have never seen a chemical fertilizer or pesticide. We make our own compost here with the help of chickens and food scraps, which then goes into the garden bed to add nutrition.

We also have many medicinal herbs including lemongrass, tarragon, rosemary, thyme, oregano, basil, sage, chamomile, wormwood, comfrey, geranium, yarrow, horsetail, rue, lemon verbena, mint, lavender, plantain, epazote, and more.

We also grow annual foods that include beans, tomatoes, corn, zucchini, pumpkin, cabbage, lettuce, beets, carrots, onions, garlic, kale, shallots, and more. Guests are welcome to harvest from the garden and will enjoy free farm-fresh eggs from our chickens daily.

You’ll also find many flowers which we love to plant for beauty and also to attract pollinators like hummingbirds, bees, and butterflies.

As land stewards, it is important to us to create as much biodiversity as possible, grow medicine in the form of herbs and fresh, healthy food that will nourish our bodies, and create habitats for insects and birds. We are blessed to have a lot of water in Tzununa, and it’s our responsibility and honor to maximize the water to create abundance and fertility on the land.

LOCATION

The property is conveniently located along a road, for easy access in and out. It's a 5-minute walk from Love Probiotics and Gaia Dance Temple, and another 5 minute walk uphill where you'll find many trails in the mountain to enjoy the trees, rivers, and waterfalls. The lake is a 15 minute walk downhill or a 5-minute Tuk Tuk ride. It's also a 15-minute Tuk Tuk ride to the nearest town, San Marcos, which has lots of shops and restaurants.

If you'd like to stay with a large group of friends or family, check out our other listings on the same property, and book together!
